The Seagull & The Cat

How Zorba the cat taught a little seagull to fly
A seagull manages to escape from an oil slick, only to lay one last egg and with her dying breath ask Zorba, a harbour cat in Hamburg, to promise that he will hatch the egg and teach the chick to fly! How on earth will Zorba manage it? But nothing is impossible when you have good friends, wise enough to help you discover your true self at just the right moment and so… learn to fly.
In their own brand-new adaptation of an original story by Chilean-born writer Luis Sepúlveda, the award-winning Pericles Theatre Company bring this heart- warming story to life with their special mix of accessibility, diversity and rough theatre.
Winners of Camp Bestival Family Show Award at Brighton Fringe 2015 with their adaptation of Romanian folk tale The Tale of the Pig.

Do you enjoy going to the Theatre? Have you always wanted to perform on stage, or work backstage making costumes and scenery? Pericles Theatre Company puts on several plays each year and we rely on our students to make these plays happen.  Click the link below to find out which role suits you.

“This performing company are much loved for producing work for children which simultaneously tickles the funny bone of grownups, and this merry adventure draws every age, from babies to octogenarians.”

Formed in 1999, the award winning Pericles Theatre Company  creates projects. Each year our Theatre Company brings together professional actors and musicians and Pericles students with complex needs. Students are involved in all aspects of the production, from designing and making costumes, masks, props and set through to acting on stage, stage management, fundraising and production. We believe that we all deserve to shine in what we do and  be acknowledged as a valued and respected member of our community. Our productions are full of life, colour and delight.

Our partnership with Atelier

Pericles Theatre Company partners with Atelier Studio Theatre (founded in 2010), which is a group of local creatives brought together by Vasile Nedelcu, the Artistic Director for Pericles Theatre Company. Atelier has created a number of productions of its own – Peer Gynt (Ibsen), The Chairs and The Lesson (Ionesco), What Shall We Do With The Cello (Visniec); the group includes actors, musicians, costume makers, prop makers, set designers and directors. They volunteer their time for Pericles productions and we feel very blessed to work with them!

“We have just completed the fourth year of the Chiddingstone Castle Literary Festival and we are now busily planning for next year which will again take place over the first May Bank Holiday weekend. The Pericles Theatre Company has been with us from the start,in 2016 and 2017 with a single performance and then we agreed two performances in 2018 and 2019 to satisfy demand! The performers all display a real enthusiasm for their roles which transfers readily to the audience and certainly enjoyed by all ages. For this year’s two performances of The Little Mermaid we had a record attendance including a significant number of adults.”
